How To Add War Stories

To create new entries to the War Stories Wiki, you need to know the following basics about the way Wikidot.Com wikis operate:

First of all, you need to know how to edit a page. To do this, scroll down to the bottom of the page. There you will find the "edit" button. Click on it, and you can edit the raw code of the current page. Once you have made your changes, you can click on the "save" button, and your changes will be added to the page. Simple.

Furthermore, you need to know is how to create internal links. Internal links - that is, links between different pages within the War Stories Wiki - are one or more words bracketed by triple square brackets. For example, an internal link to the Shadowrun page would look like this:

Internal links are either displayed in black or in red. In the latter case, this means that it links to a page that doesn't actually exist yet. If you click on such links, you are asked to create a new page with the name of the link.

Finally, the War Stories Wiki has several so-called templates - semi-finished pages where you will only need to fill in the blanks. When you create a new page, you can choose them from the "Initial content:" menu near the top of the edit window. These are not only great time savers, but also help making the wiki look more internally consistent.

There's more to the syntax of the wiki - lots more - but this is all you really need to know to get started. If you are interested in learning more about the syntax, visit this page - it explains it all far better than I could.

With this out of the way, let's get started. To add your own war stories, follow this process.:

  1. Go to the category where you want to create your entry (such as the Shadowrun page for Shadowrun stories).
  2. Edit that page and create an internal link with the name of your story.
  3. Save the page and click on the link.
  4. Choose the "War Stories" template from the template menu.
  5. Follow the instructions in the template. Enter your story and save it.
  6. Profit.

If the category you want to place it under doesn't exist, just create a new page for it:

  • If it is for a new setting, create a link for it on the Settings page and choose the Settings template for the new entry.
  • If it is for a new system, create a link for it on the Systems page and choose the Systems template for the new entry.
  • If it is for another type of category, create a link for it on the Category page.

That's it. Have fun!
